William Peace
1773-1865
In 1857 prominent men in the Presbyterian Synod of North Carolina established Peace and named the college in honor of William Peace, an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, who gave $10,000 and the site for the college. Photograph is of William Peace as a young man. Photograph was taken from a miniature donated to the college by Closs Wardlaw, formerly Closs Peace, Class of 1930.
